Hi, Is it going to be an update or a full reinstall?
Can I keep this build 5384? Or Is it mantory to upgrade?
You can keep it forever but it will quit working on June 30, 2007, as you can see by typing "winver" into the Start Search box (and hitting Enter).
Even if Upgrade is an option for RC1, many in this ng argue against it. The TechBeta testers are testing some of the upgrade scenarios in the more structured testing that goes on in that group so don't worry if you feel a clean install is a better idea. However, when Vista releases to manufacturing (rtm's) then I think a clean install is the only way to go. Period.
There are many ways to "archive" builds. The best is probably by using Virtual Server 2005 R2 and just storing the virtual machines on an external hard drive. I don't see much point in devoting a partition to old builds, however. Why bother? You can also just keep the dvd's as museum pieces.
